The demotion operator $\circlearrowleft$

The promotion operator $\circlearrowright$ nests voids — it increases rank. The demotion operator $\circlearrowleft$ is its inverse: it strips one level of nesting, reducing rank. Where $\circlearrowright$ is the ouroboros consuming outward, $\circlearrowleft$ is the ouroboros unravelling inward.

The operand on the right is the orientation key — it specifies which pole to strip against. The rule: cross-orientation strips one nesting level and flips the residual sign; same-orientation is the self-composition fixed point (as with $\circlearrowright$).

The boundary condition

Demotion at the floor re-opens the mystical paradox — the snake eats its own tail back to the beginning:

There is no nesting level to strip, so demotion re-triggers the original ouroboros composition. The structure is genuinely cyclic — the floor is not a wall but a doorway back to the paradox that generated the void in the first place.

What this resolves

$0^0 = 1$ is no longer only a convention — in MMP it is the only possible result of composing the two oriented voids: the base zero is $\{\}_-$ (approached from $\infty$) and the exponent zero is $\{\}_+$ (approached from $0$). Their composition is necessarily $\{\{\}\} = 1$ because the full polarity cycle has been traversed.

Standard mathematics hedges on $0^0$ because it collapses both zeros into the same unoriented $\{\}$ — directional information is lost. Indeterminacy is the price of forgetting orientation.

Category error in ordinary notation

When we write $0^0$ in the finite symbol system, MMP reads a mystical expression: the $0$s and $\infty$s in play belong to the ouroboros operator, not to the ordinary arithmetic operator set. We are still satisfied with the algebraic relation $0^0 = 1$, but we derive it as

For someone versed in MMP, this is the infinite nothingness "raised to" the infinite nothingness — dimensionally akin to folding the infinite nothingness into itself.

MMP does not dispute $0^0 = 1$. It disputes that the derivation must rest on convention. The oriented void algebra shows why the result could not be otherwise: infinity folded into itself has no choice but to recover the unit — chiral recovery; the negative void and positive void are already each other's completion, so their meeting yields exactly one nesting, exactly unity.

The cascade

Everywhere $0^0$ appears ambiguously in standard work — combinatorics, power series, limits — MMP says: you have two oriented zeros; check their polarities; the answer is fixed by which met which.

Standard mathematics often justifies $0^0 = 1$ by scaffolding: empty mappings, the empty product, conventions that keep power series tidy. The result is justified by its consequences rather than derived from what zero is.

MMP asks first: what kind of thing is zero? The answer — zero is not mere absence but a pole, an oriented void, one end of the ouroboros — makes $0^0 = 1$ fall out as a categorical statement about the nature of nothingness. Not "this is convenient," but this could not be otherwise.

The ancient intuition that zero and infinity are partners rather than opposites, and that nothingness has direction, is what dissolves the ambiguity without appealing to combinatorics or power series alone: a categorical claim on nothingness, not an identity chosen for downstream convenience.

Corroboration

The trinary structure $\{\{\}_-, \{\}, \{\}_+\}$ is not a curiosity — it is the natural algebra of systems that exist in superposition before resolution. Two independent lines of evidence arrive at the same conclusion:

Balanced Ternary — The Soviet Setun computer found it from engineering efficiency: balanced ternary is the most information-dense radix. MMP explains why those three digits are the natural primitives — they fall out of the oriented void algebra, not from an optimisation search.

Bell's Inequality — The noncommutativity of $\circlearrowright$ is the Bell violation. Particles carry null $\{\}$ before measurement; the sign is produced by which oriented void meets which, not carried in advance. The hidden variable assumption is the assumption that orientation is predetermined.
